Which Peaberry Coffee Is The Best?

You can feel reassured that there will be no burnt aftertaste with these coffee beans. This is a strong, robust blend. There is a hint of acidity, but this produces especially delicious lattes and has pretty much already become one of our favorite “every day” coffees.

It’s always nice to know a little about who’s producing your coffee, and this company is family-run, with over forty years of experience behind them. What Is Peaberry Coffee And Where Does It Come From?

Now is probably a good time to explain what peaberry coffee is, and why it’s so special, since the more you know about the type of coffee, the easier it will be to choose one that’s right for you. Let’s start with a quick coffee anatomy lesson.

Usually, the fruit, or cherry, of the coffee plant develops two seeds, with flattened sides facing one another. In around 5% of coffee beans, however, only one seed develops. This is the peaberry. Peaberry coffee beans are selected very carefully, and will usually be air-roasted to maintain flavor and preserve the delicate nature of the fruit.

In general, the Hawaiian peaberry is slightly more acidic than the Thai peaberry; the Tanzanian peaberry, although very small, is packed with flavor. Peaberry coffee is most often associated with Tanzania, although peaberry coffee varieties from Hawaii and Thailand have also become popular in recent years. There is a debate about whether peaberry is always superior to “ordinary” coffee: so much depends on the estate, roasting process and climate.

What Is The Best Way To Make Peaberry Coffee?

Peaberry blends tend to be light to medium roast, so many blends are not ideal for espresso, although there are exceptions. They are, however, perfect for making rich-tasting coffee with a great combination of flavors in drip coffee machines, automatic coffee machines, and with a French press

Peaberry coffee, in general, is known for its light, bright, rounded taste and smooth texture, although as with all coffee varieties, it differs between producers. There’s a real pleasure to be had in the scents of peaberry coffee, which can range from deepest darkest chocolate to light and fruity lime or orange.

What Makes Peaberry Coffee So Special?

With peaberry coffee, you know that you’re getting something that little bit special. The price does reflect this, but there is no doubt that the flavors of peaberry coffee really are worth paying for. There is a theory that peaberry coffee is so good because the coffee cherries, being round, roast more evenly. It’s equally likely that the unique taste is due to the fact that the beans are specially selected.

There’s even a charm about the word: peaberry, especially when you know that the Spanish word for these coffee beans is caracolillo, derived from the word for snail. So it’s no wonder that peaberry coffee is becoming quite a trend in many coffee outlets.

One of the key features that makes peaberry coffee so special is that the beans are sorted by hand, allowing sorters to keep only the very best to be added to the blend. While we’re sure robot coffee harvesters will probably appear on the horizon at some point given some of the research going on in the world, when it comes to coffee, as yet, there’s no substitute for experience and expertise and for what might be termed “human eyeball 1.0”.

And The Best Peaberry Coffee Is…
