The K525 Vs. The K575

Both of these single-serve coffee makers let you recreate the coffee shop experience in your own home. You can choose from literally hundreds of variations on a theme: coffee shop staples from the major chains, black tea, decaffeinated tea and green tea from major tea manufacturers, and cocoa and chocolate-based drinks to help you wind down for the evening.

No matter which of these two machines you opt to buy, you’ll need to buy the accessories, like the carafe and the reusable pod, separately. Both coffee makers offer an extremely generous 80oz capacity in the removable water reservoirs and you can also select different altitude settings.

What Is The Same?

Both are programmable, with clear, easy-to-use color digital screens, just under 3 inches, with a choice of three languages (English, French or Spanish). Both models use up-to-date technology and look sleek and attractive, not to say slightly futuristic.

Despite their solid-looking appearances, both machines are lightweight enough to transport easily, with the Keurig K525 Plus weighing just under 12 pounds once any shipping materials are removed, while the Keurig 2.0 K575 weighs closer to 14 pounds.

In terms of how much space you need to allow on your counter-tops, the two coffee makers are identical in size, at 13.6 inches high by 10.4 x 13.4 inches. Do remember you need to allow an extra couple of inches above that 13.6 inches to make sure there’s enough clearance to lift the lid and add or remove the pods.

Key Differences

Of course, we had to try out both machines, with as many different drinks as we could get our hands on – hardly a hardship, though! While you get a lot of coffee machine for your hard-earned dollars no matter which of these two machines you select, there are a few differences.

The K575 doesn’t come with the removable drip tray, but it does ship, as standard, with K-carafe pods to get you started on larger servings if you have the carafe; you also usually get a small selection of K-cup choices in the pack. The K575 also gives you a lot more choice and control when it comes to the temperature of your drink, whether you prefer your cup of char, mug of cocoa, or carafe of joe boiling hot or “just nice”, thank you.

We’ve mentioned the very slight weight differential already; one other difference is that the K575 Keurig usually ships with the water filter as standard while the K525 Keurig does not.

Keurig Coffee Machines Ups And Downs

One of the few downsides of the Keurig range of single-serve coffee machines is that if you want genuine specialty drinks they’re probably not the perfect choice for you. While you can buy K-cups that are close to latte or cappuccino coffees, for instance, it’s not the same as having a machine with a built-in milk frother.

There have been recent discussions and expressions of concern about the environmental impact of the pods, as not all districts take them in for recycling; another downside of Keurig single-serve machines is that you need to clean and maintain them very carefully to keep them running smoothly, and this usually includes unclogging the needle which pierces the pods. You do also need to descale regularly, depending on how hard the water is in your area.

You also need to bear in mind that Keurig discontinues models very regularly – on average, they bring out at least two new coffee machines a year.

Who Is The Target Audience?

Despite the downsides, for many Keurig owners, brand loyalty is very high; the brand has led the coffee maker bestseller charts for several years now. It’s hard to beat Keurig for sheer convenience. Other advantages include the extensive range of beverages on offer, the ease of use, the fact that you get to enjoy your coffee shop favorites in the comfort of your own home or workplace – all of these factors make Keurig extremely popular.

Since they are pretty portable, these machines would also be great for a PTA meeting, or a coffee or charity event, offering authentic and fresh-tasting high street coffee favorites at a fraction of the price you’d pay in the outlets. There are excellent variety packs available to get you started.

So either of these machines would suit individuals, couples, groups, or families who enjoy fresh coffee but don’t want the sheer hassle of having to use a French press or standard coffee maker.

While the environmental footprint is still on the high side, Keurig is striving to become a more sustainable company. They are hard at work to make their pods greener, and you do now have the option to purchase reusable K-cups to help reduce the impact on the environment.

Conclusion – Which One Should You Choose?

Our Winner: Keurig K575

With their decent reservoir capacity and a wide choice of drinks available, either of these two machines represents great value for money. Either would be suitable for a small household that loves coffee. They’d also be ideal for larger households, or a smallish workplace; they’d make a nice addition to a hairdressing salon or beauty therapy reception area, for instance, to make clients feel welcome.

And if you have a business meeting or training course to conduct, what could be nicer than offering participants a freshly brewed cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea? If it’s the summer, or you’re located somewhere with a warm climate, improvise iced beverages by brewing your drink with your Keurig coffee maker as normal and then add ice.

On the surface, it may look as if you are shelling out more for the Keurig K575 in the first instance, but you need to take into account that the Keurig K525 does not ship with the water filter kit as standard. Once you’ve made allowances for that, the price differential is much less.

The K575 has an obvious edge; quite apart from the fact that you get slightly more brew size choices, and you can customize the nightlight to different colors to match or complement your kitchen décor. We know it’s a little bit of a gadget gimmick, but it actually means you can personalize the model that little bit more.

So, overall, the K575 slips in to win the race in the K575 vs. the K525 by a sliver – this is the model we’ve opted for, and we’re delighted with it.
